Using White Button Mushroom Soup To Reduce Excess Oestrogen

Hippocrates said, “let food be thy medicine.”

He was spot on.

Mushroom soup is one of the best, tastiest, simplest examples of food as medicine.  White button mushrooms have been shown to reduce excess estrogen and other toxins that you might have in your gut.

Several landmark studies (Grube, 2001., Chen, 2006) that showed the clear benefit of white button mushrooms as a potential breast cancer chemopreventive agent.

Pollution, phytoestrogens (compounds that mimic estrogen), stress, poor diet, and poor gut health can create conditions where there is too much estrogen in the body in relation to other hormones.

White button mushrooms contain compounds that actively suppress aromatase activity and more estrogen production.

The weekly use of mushroom soup combined with working on improving metabolism, and reducing phytoestrogens and stress (get a copy of our YES metabolism foods below), is extraordinarily helpful in maintaining normal levels of estrogen.

White button mushroom soup is by no means a panacea, however using it once or twice a week, in conjunction with a daily carrot salad help set better conditions in your gut and will help you feel better.

Cooking mushrooms properly is important.

Mushrooms contain 2 toxic compounds  (hydrazine and agaritine), however these can be boiled and steamed off by cooking them for about 2 hours.

Make your cooking worthwhile and cut up about 1 kg of mushrooms to cook up.  Store any leftovers in the fridge over the next few days for reheating and eating.

Mushroom Soup

Recipe Gut Healing White Button Mushroom Soup

  • 1kg (2.2lb) white button mushrooms
  • 1 liter (2 and a bit pints) of water
  • 500ml of good quality beef or chicken broth
  • Small handful each of thyme and parsley, chopped (optional)
  • 1-2 tsp salt

Serve with buttered Sourdough and Parmesan.

For storage, allow to cool off then keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. If your batch is more than you’ll get through in 5 days, portion it and freeze.

For best results, use in conjunction with the carrot salad (not at the same meal)  and proper blood sugar management.

    I changed my diet yesterday seeking easy digestion foods… boiled eggs, raw carrot, homemade banana bread and mushroom soup, and sourdough bread! Gosh I felt absolutely amazing this morning!!
